M. D. Wessler & Associates, Inc. (MDWA) has served the Indianapolis International Airport in providing cost-effective,
compliant solutions to drainage and deicing runoff control issues. Deicing runoff control measures designed by the firm
have grown from aerated-retention basin facilities to automated storage and disposal facilities ranging in size from
80,000 gallons to 43 million gallons.
MDWA has been at the forefront of the evolution of deicing runoff controls, treatability and disposal studies, and
NPDES permit negotiations in the 1990’s. Our experience is now leading us into the future. This is evidenced by the
current runoff controls in place at IND and also by the Industrial Permit negotiated with the Indianapolis Department
of Capital Asset Management. MDWA staff has inspected deicing control facilities at numerous international airports,
and is routinely in contact with engineers and managers at other international airports and with industry leaders to
assess the performance of current controls, the status of NPDES processes, and planned improvements.
