Tertiary Rehabilitation Project - Muncie Sanitary District
Wessler & Associates was honored by ACEC Indiana on February 2, 2008 at the Twentieth Annual Engineering Excellence Awards presentation ceremony when they received an ACEC Merit Award for the Tertiary Rehabilitation Project that was completed for the Muncie, IN Sanitary District in 2005.
The project involved improvements to the Water Pollution Control Facility’s Advanced Waste Treatment (AWT) process to increase the tertiary filter treatment capacity, reduce backwash frequency and backwash water requirements, and to restore the AWT process to a reliable operation. The major improvements include new mono-media filter beds, simultaneous air/water backwash, semi-automatic filter controls, two 2,500cfm centrifugal blowers, two 10,500gpm vertical turbine backwash pumps with VFD’s, and a 42MGD effluent flow metering structure. The project also included replacement of filter valves, electric actuators and structural improvements, including rehabilitation of the AWT structure.
